Connected Presence

Living in a dangerous world, technology is relied on more than ever. People are expected to regularly keep their family and friends updated, but what happens when they don’t?

This podcast shares a story about a concerned mother and her son Simon who was near a terrorist attack. Simon’s mother Anniek speaks about her experience and strong feelings towards the event. In the studio we also have Guido Kempter, a professor in user-based technologies to discuss his opinions on communication technologies and its effect on individuals. Does having these technologies make it easier to determine one’s safety, or does it lead to unfounded panic and an over-inflated sense of danger? The question is: how useful is technology as a security-surveillance measure?
